INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
To Continue the Battle to Permanently
PROHIBIT NUCLEAR WEAPONS
AND ALL WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION
Friday, June 18 and Saturday, June 19, 2010
9 AM to 6 PM
at the “Bourse du Travail” • 3 rue du Chateau d’Eau
Paris, France

Let us rededicate ourselves to the principles of the Stockholm Appeal and develop a plan to finally prohibit Nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction. This conference precedes the UN conference on the revision of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to be held in New York beginning April 30.

The Stockholm Appeal was signed on March 11, 1950.
Issued by the World Peace Council, it declared the first use of nuclear weapons illegal and a crime against humanity.

Hundreds of millions of people worldwide signed the appeal.
It forbade the use of such weapons, especially in the Korean War.

Today there remain stockpiles of nuclear weapons throughout the world with enough explosive power to destroy the world many times over.

The current Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty does not outlaw nuclear weapons. It limits the ban to those states that do not yet possess them.Agreements, which only limit the permissible amount of stockpiling, have obscured the necessity for their total elimination, and promote the theory that such stocks serve as a deterrent. The failure of the world community to declare the use of these weapons completely illegal remains a source of threat to international peace and stability.

The International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL) is part of a continuing campaign to affect public opinion on the total illegality and criminality of nuclear weapons.

IADL works to strengthen the actions of all those fighting for their total elimination, as well as the
elimination of all the weapons of mass destruction. We also seek to develop strategies to continue the battle to eliminate all weapons of mass destruction and promote disarmament consistent with the UN Charter.
