IADL notes with concern that while the UN Human Rights Council is on the verge of adopting a new, updated declaration on the Human Right to Peace, the major Western powers are poisoning the atmosphere by creating hysteria to wage war against Syria and Iran. The IADL condemns in the strongest possible terms these threats to international peace and security which are prohibited by the UN Charter and the doctrine of jus cogens.

Since its founding in 1946, and again in its conference of Paris in 2010, IADL has always supported the total elimination of nucléar weapons.

The International Association of Democratic Lawyers, has, for over ten years, been working to address the ongoing effects of the United States' use of chemical weapons, most specifically the Agent Orange during the American war in Vietnam. These agents were sprayed over large portions of South Vietnam to destroy foliage and crops so as to give the United States a military advantage in the war. The spraying occurred for 10 years from 1961 to 1971 and made no distinction between military or civilians.

STATEMENT ON THE FUKUSHIMA DISASTER

We are seriously concerned about the fate of the victims and their welfare, and want to offer whatever aid we can afford in our professional capacity as well as in the same capacity as world citizens. We offer our full support and cooperation and urge the world community to come forward in a massive way with humanitarian aid and support.

We also urge, more particularly at this moment, the world community to assert the common framework of international human rights law and the inalienable rights of the people to information and freedom of expression.

Resolution in support of the demand for immediate and unconditional departure of the UN Mission for the Stabilization of Haiti

The International Association of Democratic Lawyers has been informed of the exactions committed in Haiti by the United Nations Mission for the Stabilization of Haiti (MINUSTAH), notably the massacres in popular neighborhoods, the hanging of a 17 years old young man, acts of pedophilia, sexual violence on women and girls. MINUSTAH is also legally responsible for the cholera epidemic brought by Nepalese soldiers, situation which has already caused the deaths of 6000 Haitians and has contaminated more than 400.000, in an epidemic that continues to spread all over the country.

Veto to oppose the admission of Palestine is illegal and must be ignored

The International Association of Democratic Lawyers submits the below resolution to Secretary General Ban Ki Moon regarding the upcoming discussion of the admission of the State of Palestine to the United Nations.

WHEREAS the question whether to recognize the State of Palestine for admission to the United Nations is to be considered in the near future; and

WHEREAS it is possible that a permanent member of the Security Council may try to use a veto to try to avoid the admission of the State of Palestine; and

IADL statement on military action against Libya

1. The International Association of Democratic Lawyers ("IADL") has previously condemned the brutal repression of democratic mass demonstrations in Libya and stated that reports of indiscriminate bombing on civilians if true would violate the core principles of humanitarian law. IADL also called for an immediate end to support of Gaddafi's regime and for the immediate end to the bloodshed of the Libyan people. IADL stressed that the Libyan regime may be guilty of crimes against humanity, which may brought before the International Criminal Court.

Reports of indiscriminate bombing on civilians if true would violate the core principles of humanitarian law.

As in Tunisia, Egypt and other Arab countries the youth are prominently in the lead in rising up against regimes that are ignoring civil liberties and which have been subservient to Western interests. Democratic lawyers, jurists and judges, are among the forefront of this revolution, aimed at achieving an effective rule of law based on the guarantee of individual and collective rights.

1. From the 18th to the 22nd of January, 2011, I participated as a representative of international, European and Italian democratic lawyers to a mission to Tunisia organized by the Euromediterranean Human Rights Network (REMHD), a network based in Paris which has been working since a long time with Tunisian human rights association, trade unions and opposition.
